A man who was shot and wounded on Huludagoda Road in Mount Lavinia on Saturday night has died of his injuries, police said.
The victim was a 40-year-old resident of Ragama, NewsFirst reported. He was admitted to the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital after the attack but succumbed a short while later, according to Daily Mirror.
Two gunmen arrived by motorcycle
Two people who arrived on a motorcycle carried out the shooting, targeting the victim at a house, police told NewsFirst. A revolver-type firearm was used, police said.
Ada Derana reported that the shooting occurred at around 9.50 p.m. inside a residence on Huludagoda Road, an account consistent with NewsFirst’s.
Hiru News, citing police, placed the attack at a vehicle repair garage in the Huludagoda area. That account remains the outlier, and no official statement has specified the exact premises.
The victim has not been named, and police have not disclosed a possible motive or said how the gunmen left the scene. No arrests have been reported.
Two police teams are conducting investigations into the incident.
Latest in a run of gun attacks
The killing is the latest in a series of shootings reported across the island this month. Gunmen opened fire in Tangalle’s Kudawella area on August 12, and a youth was wounded in a shooting in Weeraketiya on August 14.
Investigations are ongoing.
