Litro Gas Lanka has decided not to revise the price of its domestic LP gas cylinders for October, leaving household cooking gas costs unchanged for the month, the Daily Mirror reported on Sunday evening.
The price card stays as it is:
| Cylinder | Price |
|---|---|
| 12.5 kg | Rs. 4,365 |
| 5 kg | Rs. 1,750 |
| 2.3 kg | Rs. 815 |
NewsFirst reported the same three figures, saying Litro had “decided to keep gas prices unchanged for the month of October.”
This is September’s card, held for a second month
The figures are not new. They are the prices Litro set on 5 September, when it cut the 12.5 kg cylinder by Rs. 100, the 5 kg by Rs. 42 and the 2.3 kg by Rs. 20 — the first movement in its price card after holding flat through August, June and May.
October is therefore the first full calendar month at the reduced rate, rather than a fresh concession. Litro is the dominant supplier of domestic LPG in Sri Lanka and its monthly decision is watched as a cost-of-living indicator.
Neither outlet reports the reasoning behind this month’s decision. In both August and September the company cited rising international gas prices and difficult exchange-rate conditions — in August as a reason to hold, in September as something it was cutting prices despite.
The two outlets differ on one cylinder size
The Daily Mirror lists the smallest cylinder as 2.3 kg; NewsFirst calls it a 2.5-kilogram cylinder. Both give the same price of Rs. 815. Litro’s domestic range and this site’s earlier coverage use 2.3 kg, which is the figure carried above; NewsFirst’s appears to be a slip.
Not reported
Neither outlet says whether LAUGFS Gas, the other domestic supplier, will follow. That matters more than usual this month: LAUGFS did not match September’s reduction, leaving its 12.5 kg cylinder roughly Rs. 600 above Litro’s. Unless LAUGFS moves, that two-tier market carries into October.
A caution for readers searching this story: “No change in gas prices for October — Litro Gas” recurs almost every year, and 2024 editions carrying nearly identical wording rank highly in search results. The discriminator for this month is the price triple above, not the headline.
